Brazilian Heavy Metal act RF FORCE signs with Black Lion Records and releases new music video! Jono Moulds checks it out for The Rock & Roll Circus.

A heavily distorted guitar riff, with pinched harmonics flying around the ears open-up the latest single from Brazilian metal outfit ‘RF Force’ which is ‘Fallen Angel’. The riff certainly has a sound and technical element of early DIO (i.e., Vivian Campbell) and harks back to some of the classic metal bands from days gone by.

As the riff progresses through its opening offering, ‘Emidio’ keeps time and beckons the rest of the band by a simple ‘count-in’ on the hi-hat, before ‘Saracino’ unleashes an almighty scream to officially start proceedings off, which seems to last an eternity.

Just prior to the start of verse one, there is an interesting change to the initial riff, as the arrangement deviates slightly, adding a different dimension and is a great lead into the opening  onslaught. From the off, it’s quite apparent that ‘Saracino’ has some very impressive vocal abilities, which is a cross between ‘Halford’ and ‘Tate’ and although we are less than a minute in, I’m fully expecting some crazy power from him.

As we move through the verse, guitars start to find pockets of space and fully exploit it by adding further guitar breaks and licks, whenever they possibly can. There’s plenty of bang for your buck already. The pre-chorus continues the heavy march toward the main chorus, as guitars produce incredible ‘chuggage’ and further deep, resounding riffs, backed up all the time by crisp bass lines from ‘Flausino’ and almighty double pedal kick drum bashing and timely cymbal crashes from  ‘Emidio’.

The chorus arrives quite early in the song as ‘Saracino’ announces with some force ‘Fallen Angel – what have you done?’. After the start and the all-encompassing wall of guitars, drums and bass, the chorus seems very clear and less compressed, as overdriven chords are allowed to ring out until their conclusion. This point is further re-enforced as we come to the end of the chorus as suddenly as it seems, the whole band are given free licence to ‘go for it’ and that ‘wall’ re-emerges, with some force.

And so, onto verse two, and there’s more of the same formula, however, there is further inventiveness shown within those spaces, as we are treated to different ‘licks & tricks’ by both
guitarists.

The bridge follows, and is even less busy than the chorus, yet again, it feels like the song slows down a notch or two, but this is only because the band leave enough room with their playing to suggest this, as the solo unexpectedly crops up and forms the basis for the song to rise again. The solo is far more melodic than I anticipated, but still has enough speed and finger-tapping to satisfy any metal marauder.

There is enough time for a reprise of the chorus and some extras as we pay our fond farewells to RF Force and their new release with some great guitar breaks and tremendous vocal gymnastics.

This single from RF Force has all the classic metal/rock feel from those bands we all loved back in the ‘80s (as stated, DIO, but there’s some Priest, Queensrÿche, Saxon all thrown in). This offering proves that metal is still alive, well and thriving in 2022 and in this case, with a South American slant. It’s been a treat to re-live those days of my youth through this new single and bring back so many great memories. Check it out raise your hands to ROCK!!!!
